If you’re looking for the ultimate way to relax and unwind after the hustle and bustle of theme parks, you can’t go far wrong with a private boat tour exploring some of Florida’s barrier islands. Private Island Charters offer just that.

A totally personalized and private experience visiting secluded beaches and remote islands you won’t find in many guide books.

Discover the real untouched Florida. Reach uninhabited islands only accessible by private Florida boat charters. Cruise the Gulf waters and do some dolphin spotting. Go shelling and hunt for sand dollars. Have a swim in the calm waters.

It’s relaxing fun all the way with Private Island Charters.

We took my parents on a private excursion with Captain Todd, owner and operator of Private Island Charters. And we all absolutely loved it.

Four of us set off in the morning to meet Captain Todd at a boat dock in Pasco County. It’s a couple of hours drive from Orlando, so plan for a whole day out.

Take some snacks and beverages (no glass). If you’re staying in one of our vacation homes, you’ll find cooler boxes and bags plus ice packs. We also have picnic and plasticware that you can take with you.

You’ll need swimwear, sun hats, sun lotion and towels.

How you spend the day is totally up to you. We went island hopping, then toured the waterways of Tarpon Springs. Captain Todd is happy to do whatever you prefer and has plenty of suggestions from his many years of experience offering private boat charters in Florida.

Stop for a swim and snorkel, have a picnic on the beach, explore islands, or just relax and unwind on the boat.

The day is totally yours!

Our Private Island Charters
Day Trip

North Sandbar Florida

For our first stop, we headed out to open waters to explore a remote sandbar we never even knew existed.

North Sandbar, a few miles off the Florida mainland, offers white sand and shallow waters.

The Sandbar was almost deserted when we arrived. Our trip was towards the end of January, so we were blessed with almost zero crowds. Todd did warn us it can get busy at weekends and holidays though.

But for us, there were just a couple of small boats anchored at the shore and two other people lazing in beach chairs. We almost had the sandbar all to ourselves!

The shallow waters make it perfect for little ones. The waters around the Sandbar were calm and gentle, ideal for paddling. If kids want to burn up a little energy, there’s plenty of space to run around on the sand.

Hundreds of birds of different species were huddled at one end of the sandbar. No doubt enjoying a deserted and peaceful piece of Florida, just like us.

After a stroll, a paddle to cool down and some exploring, we jumped back on the boat to head off to another totally deserted Florida island.

I might add here, the boat is pretty easy to get on and off. There’s a narrow step ladder that my 82-year-old Dad managed to navigate with a little help to steady him. Or you can just jump off the side of the boat.

Each time we stopped, Todd anchored pretty close to the shoreline, so it was shallow and an easy few steps to reach the sand.

Florida Island Hopping to Anclote Key

Anclote Key is one of Florida’s small barrier islands, 3 miles off the coast. It is lined with trees and shell filled shores. You’ll find sand dollars too. It’s totally uninhabited, apart from natural wildlife.

Anclote Key Florida

The 400 acres is home to over 40 species of birds. You’ll see a variety of shore birds, and you might even spot bald eagles and oystercatchers.

We spent some time just strolling, exploring, shelling and paddling. After a bite to eat on the boat, we the headed off back to the mainland and managed to spot a few wild dolphins playing in the waters. So awesome!

Captain Todd told us dolphin sightings were very common, so you’ll hopefully see some of these beautiful creatures during your trip with Private Island Charters. You might also spot some manatees, depending on the time of year.

Tarpon Springs

Finally, we toured around the waterways of Tarpon Springs. We’ve visited this Greek town many times, but seeing it from the water viewpoint was new to us.

Tarpon Springs is the sponge dock capital of the world and we’d highly recommend visiting after your private island charter is finished.

Captain Todd recommended places to eat in Tarpon Springs and also some local gems along the waterways.

We had such an awesome day, my parents thoroughly enjoyed the relaxation and it was so nice to take a Florida boat tour without any crowds. We had total control over what we did for the day and Captain Todd was always ready with suggestions.
