If you like authentic, you’ll love the Cherry Pocket Lake Wales
We love exploring and finding new local hang-outs and the Cherry Pocket Lake Wales Fish Camp is certainly a hidden gem if you like rustic with a good old Florida welcome. Check out our other local gems in Central Florida.
According to folklore, the 25 acres of land was discovered in the late 1940’s by two men, one named Cherry ….. and the other one not. Could his name have been Pocket? Who knows? But the Cherry Pocket at its’ inception was no more than a small room with a front and back door selling groceries and bait and tackle to fishermen who flocked to the Lake and its’ fishing.
Over the years, the Cherry Pocket has had numerous owners, the current proprietors being Richard and Elsie who have owned it for more than ten years now.
Rustic and atmospheric it most certainly is, with an indoor seating area and an outdoor dining deck with a ship shaped cheerful bar. There’s a canopy protected corner spot for live music and several tables and chairs safeguarded by large umbrellas to keep the heat of the afternoon sun at bay.
Sitting on the deck a few feet above water level and gazing onto the calm ripples of Lake Pierce is totally therapeutic.
You’ll be entertained by a great singer who performs every Saturday and Sunday afternoons, encouraging the customers to show their expertise at line dancing.
Get your Southern on, jump up and yell “Yee Haw”
Being at the water’s edge, the Cherry Pocket menu is water orientated with gator nuggets, fried oysters, grouper and catfish prominent on appetizers. The Cherry Pocket also has a Raw Bar, Crab Dinners, Coastal Fried Cuisine, House and Louisiana Specialties.
