History in Kissimmee

As first timers to kayaking in Kissimmee, and no spring chickens, we were a little apprehensive. But after some simple tuition and safety tips from our lead guide, we were in the water and on our way.

Well, actually, we were on our way to bumping into the riverbank But hey ho, we were moving!

We had opted for a tandem kayak and after a few gentle bumps, twists in the wrong direction and uncoordinated paddling, we soon learned communication was pretty vital. Which is pretty much what our guide told us right at the start.

Once we got our rhythm, it was plain sailing, or paddling, all the way.

With the flick of a paddle, kayaking in Kissimmee had taken us to the heart of a peaceful and tranquil oasis teaming with wildlife. The theme parks felt like a million miles away. It was almost impossible to believe we were just a stone’s thrown from one of the busiest vacation corridors on the planet.

The leisurely two-hour tour gave us a glimpse of nature and our guides shared knowledge and educational tips. We saw water snakes, all kinds of birds and turtles.

We didn’t see any gators, but we were ok with that!
