If you are staying with us in one of our vacation homes, you really are spoiled for choice when looking where to eat local. There’s so many restaurants local to our homes, the only trouble you’ll have is deciding where to eat!

There’s plenty of choice along the busy US-192 highway, ranging from national chains to local eats.

Here’s a few of our local favorites that are quick and easy to reach from any of our vacation homes.

Local Restaurant Picks:

In no particular order!

Bahama Breeze – Rolling Oaks Commons

Bahama Breeze is a Caribbean restaurant offering appetizers, entrees and cocktails. The menu features a great range of sharing-size appetizers, chicken, steaks, seafood, rice bowls and fresh fish. All served with a double dose of Caribbean flair. It’s a pretty big menu and offers plenty of choice and there’s a kids menu too.

The portions are fairly large and many of the entrees come in 2 sizes – regular and lighter. Regular is a good size, lighter is for those who don’t have such a big appetizer or are watching the calories.

Insiders Guide to Local Eats

Coconut Shrimp at Bahama Breeze Rolling Oaks Commons

There’s a spacious air-conditioned indoor area with a friendly bar and the dining room features extra large tables perfect for accommodating big groups.

The outdoor patio offers plenty of seating if you want to dine al-fresco. There’s live music at the weekends – it’s not loud jumping bands, it’s easy listening background music perfect to accompany dinner and a chat.

There’s Happy Hour Monday – Friday 4:00pm – 6:00pm and late night Happy Hour Sunday – Thursday 9:00pm – Close

Our Picks
The large appetizers are half price during Happy Hour, which makes for perfect sharing. We often order several appetizers to share rather than an entrée. Our favorites include coconut shrimp, spinach dip and onions rings. If you like onion rings, you’ll LOVE these!
For entrees, definite stand outs for us are Seafood Paella and Jerk Chicken Pasta.

Outback Steakhouse – Formosa Gardens

Outback Steakhouse Formosa Gardens

Towering Beer Battered Onion Ring Filet at Outback Steakhouse, Formosa Gardens

The Outback Steakhouse is an Australian themed restaurant with a lively, casual dining atmosphere.

The servers are friendly and helpful and there’s lots of seating inside and also a few outdoor tables.

The menu offers steaks, chicken, seafood, burgers, tacos, burgers and sandwiches with an Aussie twist.

Appetizers include Aussie Cheese Fries, Aussie Sampler and Fosters Beer Cheese Fondue. And of course the obligatory Shrimp on the Barbie.

There’s steaks and wood grilled specialty cuts, burgers, sandwiches and tacos. For seafood lovers, there’s Bacon Bourbon Salmon, Crab Cakes and Shrimp.

For something a little meaty, Alice Springs Chicken, Chicken on the Barbie and Pork Porterhouse are on offer.

Our Picks
We love sharing the Blooming Onion as an appetizer. It’s nice to  just pick at as you chat and enjoy the atmosphere. For entrees, we like Victoria’s Filet Minion with added Blue Cheese Crumbles, Firecracker Salmon and the New Zealand Lamb.
For dessert we love the Sweet Adventure Sampler and Salted Caramel Cookie Skillet.

Red Lobster – Formosa Gardens

As the name suggests, Red Lobster at Formosa Gardens Village is all about the seafood set in elegant New England styled surroundings. The menu offers a variety seafood, chicken, steaks, vegetarian and children’s menu too.

Appetizers include Seafood Stuffed Mushrooms, White Wine Garlic Roasted Mussels, Calamari and Create Your Own Combo.

Of course there’s fresh live lobster on the menu, including Bar Harbor or Maine Lobster Bakes, Rock Lobster Tail or Maine Live Lobster. For shrimp lovers there’s Seaside Shrimp Trio, Shrimp Your Way and Walt’s Favorite (named after the Chef, not Mr Disney).

For meat lovers, there’s Peppercorn Sirloin, Maple Glazed Chicken and Cajun Chicken Linguine.

If you can’t make up your mind, you can always try the Ultimate Feast which includes Maine lobster tail, steamed North American snow crab legs, our hand-crafted garlic shrimp scampi and Walt’s Favorite Shrimp. Served with our wild rice pilaf and an extra side of your choice.

One thing to note is the temperatures can sometimes be quite cold in here due to the low air conditioning settings. If you’re sensitive to cold, take a light sweater.

Our Picks
The endless Cheddar Bay Biscuits are our downfall! We usually munch our way through at least a full basket before dinner is served. The Biscuits arrive at your table warm, crumbly and deliciously cheesy. The Caesar Salad that comes with an entrée is also pretty delicious.
Our favorite dishes include the Jumbo Parrot Bay Coconut Shrimp and the Tilapia Baked in a Bag. We’re also partial to the Create Your Own Combo if we can’t make a decision.
Sadly we can’t recommend a dessert because after endless Biscuits and Caesar Salad, we never have any room left!
